Motorola confirms the unlocked Moto Z won’t work on CDMA networks
Yesterday, Lenovo and Motorola took the wraps off its latest flagship devices, the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. These devices were met with many oohs and aahs due to its sleek metal design, and a thinness that is unrivaled in the flagship smartphone market. When it comes to availability on the device, that’s where things go down hill a bit.
Verizon will be the first US carrier to receive the devices, coming to customers in the Summer, and the unlocked variant will be released in September. Some folks thought these devices might have similar connectivity to the Moto X Pure which although unlocked, would still work on CDMA carriers. That won’t be the case with the Moto Z and Moto Z Force.
At Lenovo’s Tech World event, Motorola confirmed that the unlocked Moto Z will only be “available on GSM networks starting in September.” This is a rather large disappointment for those who would rather get an unlocked version to use across any network, and not be limited to the DROID version if on Verizon.
