Here’s the first look at how the new BLOCKS Modular Smartwatch will work [VIDEO]

Yesterday, we saw that the popular Kickstarter project from BLOCKS, had exited its Kickstarter status and entered the pre-order stage. The BLOCKS Modular Smartwatch is the first of its kind, and was met with much excitement and anticipation when the Kickstarter project launched in October of last year. Today, BLOCKS released a video that gives everyone a better look at what will be coming later this year.

Although the project was expected to launch in May of this year, it turns out that things were delayed a bit. Regardless, BLOCKS received enough funding to start allowing hopefuls the ability to pre-order the modular smartwatch.

The video released by BLOCKS today shows off the different modules that will be accompanying the smartwatch, as well as the software. With 6 different modules, you will truly be able to personalize your smartwatch, and easily swap between modules if need be.

BLOCKS Smartwatch Specs:

  • 1.39″ AMOLED 400×400 Display
  • 300mAh battery
  • Stainless Steel casing
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 Wear processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB Storage
  • Microphone
  • Android Marshmallow

As for the software, the BLOCKS Modular Smartwatch is running a modified version of Android Marshmallow. It will allow users to interact with various built-in apps through the watch face, including fitness applications and the ability to call or message contacts from your wrist.

None of the software is really revolutionary, but the excitement comes from actually being able to swap different modules out on the go. For example, if you’re running low on battery you can slap on the extra battery module, and your smartwatch will have enough charge to last you half-a-day.

The BLOCKS Modular Smartwatch will be shipping to those who pre-ordered the device later this year with prices starting at $330 and includes 4 modules of your choice.

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t been this excited for a smartwatch since the original Moto 360 was announced alongside Android Wear. What do you think about this upcoming smartwatch? Is it enough to supplant your current smartwatch?
