Google pauses automatic updates for some Chromebooks after finding a critical bug
Despite Chromebooks being some of the most secure computing devices around — thanks in part to automatic updates that keep everyone up-to-date with the latest patches and security fixes — it doesn’t mean they’re perfect. A bug found affecting some models has left a handful of Chromebooks unable to update past Chrome OS version 49. Here are the affected units:
- Lenovo N22 11.6
- Acer Chromebook R11
- Sanance / Chromebook 14
- Asus Chromebook C300SA
- ThinkPad 11e Chromebook
Google says a fix should be rolling out in the coming days, but until then, they’ve paused updates until they can be confident the issue with the firmware updater has been resolved. If you have one of these Chromebooks, just rest assured that help is coming and stay on the look out.
