We thought Samsung might introduce their first ever mobile-appropriate iris scanner in some sort of high-end phone. The Samsung Galaxy Note 6, perhaps? It’s still possible that device will get one, but it won’t be able to claim the honors of being the first.
That honor will go to the newly-announced (and aptly-named) Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris. This 7-inch tablet bound for India doesn’t do anything to give us those good feelings we tend to get with an exciting device:
Samsung says it’s positioned as an affordable biometric security device for government and enterprise. Fair enough. But we’re hoping that this is more of a field test for the technology before they eventually prop it up into a device that we might want to buy.
