Google’s main form of revenue is advertisements and today the company announced a new form of advertisement for businesses within Google Maps. Google states that roughly one-third of all searches made with mobile are location related, so they want to make it easier for businesses to be found on Maps.
Going forward, companies will be able to pay to have their logo added as a pin on Google Maps so that users will be more likely to spot them and find out more. The information card will be clearly marked as an ad as to not deceive anyone.
There is a lot more in Google’s blog post but this change to Google Maps will be one of the only public-facing changes to Google’s advertising plan.
