Capcom unleashes Resident Evil 5 for Android on Google Play for $10

Capcom’s popular Resident Evil franchise has become synonymous with survival-horror video games over the years. But up until this point, major installments in the Resident Evil series have primarily released only on consoles and PC. This week, however, Resident Evil 5 is available to download on Android exclusively on NVIDIA’s flagship gaming platform, SHIELD Android TV.

Featuring a chilling new West African setting ravaged by a deadly plague and an emphasis on fast-paced action over traditional survival-horror, Resident Evil 5 sees the return of series protagonist Chris Redfield. This time he’s joined by Sheva Alomar, who works for the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. While RE5 previously supported two-player co-op, the experience has been redesigned to work well on SHIELD as a single-player experience.

As Chris, players must investigate a devastating biological weapon that has transformed villagers into murderous creatures known as the Majini. Unlike your typical shambling, mindless living dead, these zombie-like creatures are much more dangerous in packs. They can even transform into something nastier when you blow off their limbs, sprouting tentacle-like appendages.

With Resident Evil 5’s release on Android, it’s worth pointing out that this isn’t a watered down mobile port of the game. Optimized for SHIELD Android TV, which is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 mobile processor, the game features highly-detailed console-quality visuals and action.

The game also introduces some notable enhancements to the series including a revamped shooting and targeting system that allows players to carefully aim and fire at targets.

You can download Resident Evil 5 on NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV via Google Play now for a special launch price of $9.99.
