Not satisfies with the three new Xperia phones that were already announced this year, Sony has just unveiled the new Xperia XA Ultra. While it’s previous devices focused on the usual mid-range and flagship-tier segments, the Sony Xperia XA Ultra is positioned to be a mid-range phone with an absurdly large display and top-of-the-line selfie cam specs. The front of the phone is dominated by a 6-inch 1080p display with extremely thin bezels, allowing the phone’s size to that of 5.5-inch devices. Following in the footsteps of the HTC 10, the Sony Xperia XA Ultra will be the second smartphone on the market with OIS built into the front-facing camera, allowing its users to capture images of themselves and their friends at 16 megapixels.
Other specifications include a Mediatek Helio P10 processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and microSD card slot. Sony is promising two full days of battery life on a single charge, but we’re not sure how that’s possible as the battery has a capacity of 2,700 mAh. The rear camera is equipped with a 21.5-megapixel sensor, but it doesn’t include optical image stabilization like the front-facing camera.
The phone will be hitting store shelves starting in July with Black, White and Lime Gold color options. Naturally, Sony isn’t willing to comment on the price quite yet, but the Xperia XA Ultra should be cheaper than devices like the Galaxy S7, HTC 10 and LG G5.
Do you think large-screen, mid-range devices with great front-facing cameras will be more appealing to younger buyers than traditional flagship-tier devices?
