The FCC may have revealed the followup to last year’s NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1
When the original NVIDIA SHIELD tablet was released in 2014, it was met with a few hoorays but even more question marks. The device was plagued with battery issues and things eventually getting so bad, NVIDIA had to pull them off store shelves to avoid anymore headaches.
Then NVIDIA released its successor, the NVIDIA SHIELD K1, with better batteries and some minor refinements to the design. It’s been a little less than a year since the K1 launched and now, it seems its followup could soon be upon us.
A new tablet crossed the desk of the FCC this week carrying the model number of P22900W. Although the paperwork doesn’t reveal much, it did tell us the following:
- Measurements: 8.6″ x 4.8″ x 0.3″
- Weight: 12.3 ounces
- Micro-USB charging port
- Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy support
- Support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi
Since the SHIELD K1 was only just released in November of last year, it’s probably safe to assume we are still months away from seeing this unnamed hit the market. If you’ve been looking at the SHIELD K1 — which just recently saw an update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow — it’s currently available from Amazon for only $199.99.
Of course you might want to hold off knowing its successor is on the way even though there’s no guarantee that whatever is being reference in this FCC filing is yet another SHIELD tablet. We’ll be keeping an eye out as always, especially as it gets closer to the one year anniversary of last year’s NVIDIA Tablet K1.
