Spotify gets into original video content with 12 new shows for free and paid subscribers

Spotify is looking to become your one-stop-shop for all types of media content. On the music sides of things they’ve been doing quite well for themselves. The company has grown to amass around 75 million users and have included new ways to digest content, like their podcast catcher (although not all podcasts are found). There are also videos from networks such as NBC and Comedy Central available for viewing.

This latest report from Bloomberg states that Spotify is working on a series of original video shows to showcase through its services, adding yet another facet to the media consumption app. From Bloomberg:

Spotify will unveil plans for its first slate of original shows Monday, a year after adding clips from the BBC and Comedy Central. Episodes of every program, which range from a few minutes to 15 minutes, will be available to free and paid Spotify users in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Sweden.

There have been two video series detailed already, the first being called “Landmark” and is a documentary about significant moments in music history. The other is from All Def Digital, a company owned by Russell Simmons, called “Rush Hour”. This show details a music collaboration between two hip-hop artists, then performing the song in front of a live audience.

With 12 shows reportedly in the works, Spotify plans to give everyone the lowdown on these videos on Monday. In the meantime, you’ll need to head over to the Play Store and download Spotify if you want to experience these shows, once they’re ready to roll out.
