Google wants to emphasize the importance of going “Green” with a new awareness campaign

Going green is all the rage, and for all the right reasons — we need to conserve this aging planet. Google has long been a big proponent of the philosophy of environmental conservation, with the company doing many things in their own company to help reduce their carbon footprint.

Now, they’re about to start extolling the virtues of the practice to everyone in a big way. A new trademark by Google for the phrase “Zero Plus” was filed recently. The trademark description describes it as the name of an awareness campaign which aims to educate the public on the importance of conserving energy and cutting down on pollution.

A website for the campaign will serve as the backbone. We imagine Google will show ads for the website and have users land there when they click it to learn more about how they can help the environment. Google may even hold events for the campaign, such as workshops or conventions.

But for Google, it’s more than just proper recycling and turning off the faucet when you don’t need it. The company is doing real work to help the entire world get cleaned up. Their all-electric Self-Driving vehicles would help cut down on pollution, for instance. Project Loon would provide internet to the masses without greatly impacting the power grid. Drone delivery helps eliminate the need for the heavy pollution trucks can produce.

All of these things may seem small on their own, but it all gradually adds up to significant change. Having even just a fraction of the world attempt to do the same would go a very long way. We’ll be keeping our eye out for this new awareness campaign whenever Google decides to launch it.
