Video quality is improving at a rapid pace. YouTube is doing their best to support the latest and greatest on the web, but their other apps lag behind. 60fps video has been supported on the web for a while now, but it’s still not available on Android TVdevices. According to a user on Reddit, that could be changing soon.
As you can see in the photo, 60fps is supported for 720p and 1080p video, just like you would see on the web. Everyone else in the Reddit thread doesn’t have the option on their Android TV boxes. It’s possible that this update is in testing or rolling out to everyone. The Reddit user appears to be in Germany, which could support the idea that Google is testing the update with a few users.
TV is a big area for YouTube’s quest to take over mainstream media. It’s important that YouTube videos look great on TVs of all sizes and resolutions. Has anyone else seen this on their Android TV box? Do you like 60fps video?
