Amazon launches monthly Prime subscription for everyone; standalone $8.99 video subscription also available

Amazon is making some business changes today that they hope will get more people into Amazon Prime. Remember when they allowed Sprint customers to subscribe to Amazon Prime by the month for $10.99? Well, that now applies to everyone who would rather go that route.

Doing the math, you’ll notice that the monthly subscription is $32 more expensive than going with the annual $99 option, but this could still be the more favorable option for those who can’t pay for an annual subscription all at once.

More than that, Amazon has also introduced a standalone subscription to their video service. It’s $8.99 — still more than if you were to get the full Amazon Prime package on an annual basis — but it’s cheaper than Netflix, and that’s all Amazon really cares about.

Their video service is really taking off, and this move shows Amazon isn’t afraid to start playing ball with the video industry with a range of heavy-hitting original content spilling into their archives. Head to Amazon.com if you want in.
