Huawei files trademark for ‘Huawei 7P’ but what could it be?

Huawei’s Nexus 6P is easily one of — if not the best — Android devices around. Google and Huawei absolutely slammed one out of the park with a phone that not only features some of the best hardware around (the camera, fingerprint sensor, and build quality are all top notch), but also features some of the best software experience with updates directly from Google (don’t forget early Android N access).

All that being said, it’s safe to say we’d love to see what Huawei could do with a tablet version of the Nexus 6P. The Nexus 7 2013 was one of the more popular (if not the only?) Android tablets that’s ever launched, offering a great mix of hardware and affordability. It’s been a good 3 years since we saw an update to the 7-inch Nexus tablet, so imagine our surprise after stumbling across this admittedly odd “Huawei 7P” trademark filed earlier this month.

Now, we’re not saying this is any sort of confirmation of a premium Huawei-made Nexus 7 followup, just that it’s… interesting. Going by the description, it’s clearly a trademark relating to some sort of mobile device, although it could be a smartphone, tablet, or even “smartglasses.” Some things to consider: there isn’t a “Huawei 6P trademark” that we could find and this isn’t a “Nexus 7P” trademark, something that would really perk our ears up.

Also, like most trademarks, patents, or things of this nature — this name could be little more than just that — a name. Nothing more. Let us know your thoughts and whether or not you’d be excited for a Huawei-made Nexus 7P tablet from the manufacturer.
