Jide today announced the release of Remix OS 2.0 for the Nexus 9 and Nexus 10, as well as a stable release for their own Ultratablet. The update — which has already been available on PC — brought an overhauled notifications and taskbar system for tablets:
Notifications and Taskbar have been given a complete makeover as well. With additional horizontal real estate, Notifications appears from the right side of your desktop. Complete with a Start Menu and System Tray, Taskbar allows you to find and start all your apps from one location on one side while managing everyday system settings and connectivity on the other.
Beyond that, it gets the same features the PC version got in 2.0, including an improved window resizing feature, as well as an improved file manager. Remix has committed to feature parity across tablets and PC so we aren’t too surprised at the changes.
If you don’t know what Remix OS is, it’s an Android-based operating system that aims to provide a true desktop computing experience with multiple windows, window resizing, and competent input from peripherals. The OS can be run on a PC natively, so you don’t get the drawbacks of something like virtual machine emulations.
