We’ve already shown you what the Huawei P9 is all about, so what does the P9 Plus add? If you thought it was just a bigger screen and a bigger battery, guess again. The 5.5-inch 1080p display on the P9 Plus isn’t a dramatic step up from the 5.2-inch display on the regular model in terms of size, but it does have considerable improvements elsewhere.
Those improvements include AMOLED technology for the display panel (though the IPS LCD panel on the P9 is also good) as well as 2-level pressure sensitivity. Huawei says 18 of their system apps use the pressure sensitivity to enhance app experiences. We imagine much of it has to do with previewing multimedia and information in apps without having to fully open the app. It’s a shame this is a Huawei-only thing — your favorite apps from Google Play probably won’t be taking advantage of it anytime soon.
Huawei also saw fit to add an IR blaster here, a welcome addition for whoever finds that important. We also get stereo speakers here. Beyond that, it has the same metal construction, the same dual 13-megapixel rear Leica cameras which capture up to 90% more light than the Samsung Galaxy S7 (samples are right here) and the same 3D fingerprint scanner, as well as 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and Huawei’s Kirin 955 chipset. Check it out in the video above.
