CEO of Oculus Brendan Irbe today confirmed that folks other than lucky developers, Oculus employees or trade show attendees will finally get their hands on the Oculus Rift. Those who pre-ordered the $600 virtual reality kit early will be happy to know that the earliest shipments are going out starting today.
What’s more is that those units will be on doorsteps as soon as Monday, though your mileage is certain to vary. In the box you’ll find the illustrious headset itself, but you’ll also have a small remote, a spatial awareness sensor, and an Xbox One PC controller for performing advanced actions in apps and games.
Here’s what your PC is going to need if you want to get the most out of the experience:
Video Card NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater
CPU Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
Memory 8GB+ RAM
Video Output Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
USB Ports 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port
OS Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer
Missed out on pre-ordering? Well… you can still order, but you won’t be getting it nearly as soon as the early guys. Orders seem to have been flooding in since it first went up for sale, and orders placed now aren’t expected to ship until July at the earliest.
