When news broke last year regarding the number of accidents Google’s Self-Driving Car Project had been involved in, they seemed to have a squeaky clean record. Last May, the autonomous vehicles had reportedly only been involved in 11 accidents during its 6 years on the road, with none of the collisions actually being their fault. Well, that didn’t last very long.
Turns out the self-driving cars aren’t as perfect as we thought, with numerous near misses or even instances where a human driver had to take control of the car to avoid an accident. The Associated Press secured security camera footage of the now infamous first collision involving Google’s self-driving car and a local passenger bus. It was nothing major, just a sideswipe and minimal damage. No injuries were reported, and in the video footage it’s hard to tell the bus was even hit (aside from the surprised look on the driver’s face).
You can watch the whole collision take place via the embedded video above.
