Popular benchmarking application and service Antutu has performed a series of tests to discover which smartphone processor performs the best. In order to find out which processor is the best, Antutu had to run a series of tests on devices with each processor, and ran both overall performance benchmarks, as well as graphics benchmarks.
For the purpose of understanding what this means, the Antutu benchmark works between a range of 0 to 160,000 and is designed to run the processor through a series of tests to find out how well your device will perform.
Last year, Apple’s A9 was ranked as the top smartphone processor, with the Kirin 950 coming in as the runner-up. As for this year, here’s the list for the top performing smartphone processors with their average scores:
In addition to overall performance, Antutu also benchmarked the GPU’s on devices for 2016 and ranked which devices had the best graphics performance. The ranking for GPU is a bit different than the overall ranking, therefore the GPU scores between 0 and 60,000.
Here you can see that the top 3 processors with the best graphics performance were the same top 3 processors in the overall benchmark rankings.
Just so you can get an idea as to which devices are running these processors, you can find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 in the following devices:
Dependent upon your location, the Galaxy S7 could feature the Samsung Exynos 8890, which still ranks pretty well against the competition.
Processing power may not be all the craze today due to the fact that smartphones are getting to the point that performance drops aren’t noticeable. But if you care about the nitty-gritty specs, these tests could help you make the decision for which smartphone to look for in 2016.
