They tried, but HTC One A9 wont be able to offer Verizon support after all

When the HTC One A9 was first announced late last year, the unlocked model came out of the box supporting not only AT&T and T-Mobile’s GSM networks, but CDMA networks like Sprint as well. Verizon would prove a little tougher, but HTC made known their plans of delivering a future software update that would give the device the ability to bring 4G LTE-only support on Verizon.

After a long testing period, it seems HTC is finally ready to throw in the towel, notifying some One A9 owners of a new development: the One A9 wont be supporting Verizon’s network after all. Here’s the statement obtained by Droid-Life:

HTC is committed to providing the best experience for all of our device owners. Following extensive testing, we are unable to support the Verizon network with the Unlocked HTC One A9. For individuals on the Verizon network that ordered the Unlocked HTC One A9 on HTC.com, we will refund his/her order and provide a 20% discount on any current HTC phone or future phones launching through Dec. 31, 2016. Individuals may contact HTC Care at 1-888-216-4736. We regret any inconvenience.

We’re not sure how many people bought the phone with hopes of it one day working on Verizon, but it’s nice to see HTC offering some sort of compensation. The good news is that 20% should work fine with the upcoming HTC 10, the company’s 2016 flagship launching in a few month’s time. You can see more of that in leaked press renders here.
