HTC waited for all the noise to die down this week before they began teasing their forthcoming HTC One M10. The company didn’t offer much in that regard — we got a tiny taste of the device’s metal build — but they’re talking about more at Mobile World Congress.
Speaking with CNet, HTC CFO Chialin Chang mentioned “we can confidently say that HTC will have a very, very compelling camera experience.” Furthermore, she stressed that her confidence comes even after seeing what LG and Samsung did with the LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7.
HTC will want to make sure they can live up to that promise, because their last couple of attempts haven’t been great. Many people considered the camera experiences on the HTC One M8 and One M9 the lows of the phone despite HTC’s attempt to try different things.
The company has historically tried new things with the camera. They’ve done dual stereoscopic 3D on the HTC EVO 3D, and a dual rear camera for enhanced focusing capabilities on the HTC One M8. Then there’s Zoe, a very cool suite of tools to make some great photos and videos with special effects and easy editing tools.
It’s clear the company wants to be lauded for their cameras, but if the sheer quality isn’t there then it doesn’t matter how interesting the stuff surrounding it is. We’ll be tuned in once they start barking.
