A few years ago, Android tablets were all the rage at MWC. This year not so much. One company does have a couple of new tablets, and a couple of phones to boot. We’re talking about the Tab3 tablets and the Vibe K5 phones from Lenovo. We’ll see Lenovo’s Motorola products later this year, but for now we had a chance to check out these devices.
The Tab3 is actually three different tablets. It comes in 7, 8, and 10-inch versions. Lenovo has done a great job at creating small bezels and a very lightweight build. All three sizes feel really nice. The 7-inch model is the lowest spec’d of the bunch. It has a lowly 1024×600 resolution display, 1GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 5MP camera.
The 8-inch model has the same processor but a much more respectable 1280×800 screen resolution. Depending on configuration, it comes with 1 or 2GB of RAM, and a 5MP camera. The 10-inch model is the best of the bunch. It has a 1080p display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and an 8MP camera. All three models are super cheap. The 8 will go for $99-149, and the 10 will be $249-299. No word on pricing for the 7, but expect it to be dirt cheap.
The Vibe K5 comes in two models: a regular and a “Plus.” Both models share the same elegant aluminium design and build quality. The Vibe K5 has a 5-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 415 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 13MP camera. The Vibe K5 Plus shares most of the same specs, but the display is bumped up to 180p and the processor is a Snapdragon 616. The K5 Plus will cost just $149 while the K5 will be $129. Not bad for some attractive mid-range phones.
