Google Cardboard helped a woman see for the first time in 8 years
One of the best things about technology is how it can improve our lives. Getting a notification on your wrist is cool, but helping someone see for the first time in 8 years is life changing. That’s exactly what Google Cardboard did to a woman with Stargardt disease, which is a common form of vision loss.
The woman used a free app called Near Sighted VR Augmented Aid. The app takes video from the rear camera and splits it for both eyes. The stereoscopic effect made it possible for the woman to see again. Every Cardboard app uses the stereoscopic effect, but simply applying that to a live video made it possible for the woman to see.
