Tim Cook says more Apple apps and services could make their way to Android
With iPhone sales beginning to slow, it makes sense that Apple would begin to explore other ways of bringing in revenue. This could mean even more applications — like the recently released Apple Music — for competing mobile platforms, like Android.
Speaking during a company-wide town hall meeting, CEO Tim Cook discussed the idea of positioning Apple as more of a “services company.” Of course, in order for this to succeed, Cook admits that they’ll need to make their services available across all platforms — not just those made by Apple. Running with that idea, he goes on to say that he’s not even opposed to releasing more Android apps, using Apple Music as a way of testing the waters.
It never made sense to us why Apple — who has also proven successful at selling laptop and desktop computers — would make their software only compatible with a single mobile OS (iOS). We understand the need for a tight ecosystem but it’s clear that Android isn’t going anywhere and if they want to keep the cash flowing, they may have to take more of a Microsoft approach to their applications and services.
While things like iCloud and Apple Pay seem obvious, the thought of Siri making its way to Android sounds pretty crazy to us. Who knows, maybe one day.
