Free Google Fiber heads to public housing residents starting today
Google has started the rollout of Fiber for folks who live in affordable housing. The project delivers free gigabit internet to residents for, well, no great reason. Google simply wants to help get more of the world connected even if they can’t afford it.
The first rollout happens for a property in Kansas City called West Bluff, with all 100 units getting wired up. Google says “select” properties in all their current Fiber cities will enjoy free internet, indicating that not everyone may get it. Kansas City will get at least 9 more installations, though, and it’ll cover over 1,300 families.
It’s a pretty cool gesture by the company who is working on more unorthodox ways to deliver free internet to everyone, and the future of the world could (and should) be better off for it.
