Uber set to take on GrubHub with food delivery app in March

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Uber is looking to expand from ride-sharing to food delivery. Uber is planning to launch a new app, called UberEats, sometime in March. The service will start in just 10 US cities, but if all goes well it could expand as quickly as Uber’s ride-sharing service.

UberEats will be an expansion of a current lunchtime-only service that Uber started in a few cities last year. That service, which promises to deliver food in under 10 minutes, will remain separate under the name UberEats Instant. The food deliveries will be made by the same people who already drive for Uber. Chicago, New York, LA, Austin, Washington DC, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta will be the first test cities. The competition for food delivery has been heating up lately. The competition for food delivery has been heating up lately. Groupon recently acquired OrderUp to compete with GrubHub and Seamless, the two leaders in food delivery. Uber has the name recognition to succeed, but ultimately it will come down to price and service. Would you be willing to use Uber for your next pizza delivery?
