Google is testing the ability to install apps directly from search results
Google has long shown app results in their search engine, and they’ll even whisk you over to Google Play to install the app should you be so inclined. But another evolution of the feature could eliminate that step altogether: you’ll be able to install the app right within the search result without having to be taken to a completely different app.
The feature seems to be in early testing or rollout phases right now and isn’t showing up for everyone, but you can give it a try if you want. Just follow these quick steps:
- In the Google Search app, try searching for an app — Phandroid News, perhaps — and you may see a new listing that has an Install button embedded within.
- Click the button, and a small window with that app’s permissions come up. Accept the permissions if they look good to you.
- The small window changes to a traditional-looking Google Play result, giving you a quick summary of the app, its ratings and some screenshots, as well as a button to install. Click install.
- And the app is ready to use on your phone.
It might not change the way you use your phone forever, but it’s a pretty nice enhancement that should make it even easier and better to search for apps on Google Search than it already is. Let us know if you’re seeing the change yourself in the comments ahead.
