Nevermind “needing” a flagship smartphone with tip-top specs and the latest version of Android, some people wouldn’t want that if they had the option. If you’re the rugged type (hi construction workers!)…
or the outdoors type (shutup and paddle!)…
then you’ll want to take note of Verizon’s newest addition to their lineup: the Cat S50c Android Phone. Be warned that rugged is just about the only area this phone excels.
Yes, this is the same “Cat” you’ve grown to know from the construction world. You’ve seen their bulldozers and other equipment scattered across construction sites the world over. They partner with OEMs to create Cat brand smartphones that appeal to the same customers who count on their products to weather every storm mother nature throws at them.
That’s primarily what you get with the Cat S50s: rugged and durable. Beyond that it is a capable smartphone, but the specs pale in comparison to even other midrange or budget Android Phones of this day and age.
The spec sheet proves that point:
That isn’t a typo. The “selfie camera” on this device is less than 1MP, which makes us wonder why they included it at all. In fact, I can picture some rough-and-tumble guys bragging about not having a front-facing camera at all. It’s not an oversight, it’s a feature!
One thing we left off the spec sheet that’d be a deal breaker for most Android enthusiasts but may not matter to Cat S50c customers: it runs Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Gimme a break.
