Google’s Sundar Pichai has officially announced dates and location details for the 2016 Google I/O developers’ conference. This will be the first departure from San Francisco as the company will be holding the event in their very own backyard of Mountain View! The event will take place at the city’s Shoreline Amphitheatre.
I/O'16 coming to neighborhood where it all started 10 yrs ago: Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, May 18-20. More details soon. #io16

That’s all of the info they’re willing to offer up in the early going, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start thinking about what’s ahead. One of the first things you’ll notice if you do a bit of research on the Shoreline Amphitheatre is that, well, it’s an amphitheatre (which is a fancy word for an outdoor theatre). There’s a huge stage with tons of seats surrounding it, and it’s all sitting on a nice big lawn that we’re sure will be cut quite finely.
But that also means Google has the opportunity to show off some cool stuff at the event (drones, anyone?) that perhaps an indoor venue wouldn’t accommodate. I mean, they’ve already done a skydiving entrance at a past I/O so we wouldn’t be surprised to see them take advantage of this opportunity to do something even bigger.
All of it is just talk until it goes down, though, so we’ll be patiently awaiting May 18th, 2016 and we know you’ll be doing the same. Who’s excited?
