Don’t worry, Motorola says they wont be getting rid of the Moto E or G anytime soon
After a few misconstrued words from a Lenovo exec lead some to believe that Motorola could be planning on killing off their Moto E and Moto G line (we deliberately left this out of our post yesterday), Motorola is here to set the record straight. In a statement provided to The Verge, a Motorola rep reveals the true fate of Motorola’s mid and low-end flagships:
“Although we are simplifying the combined Motorola and [Lenovo] portfolio, we have no plans to retire Moto G, our most successful smartphone, or Moto E.”
Whether it was something that was lost in the translation, or a statement taken out of context, it simply didn’t make a lick of sense that Motorola would kill off their bread and butter. Whereas Motorola’s high-end devices may have trouble gaining traction among the iPhones and Samsungs of the world, their lower end devices — which are sold unlocked and contract-free online — have proven to be much more competitive around the world.
So there you have it, if you’re a fan of the G or E series, these devices will continue to live on and if this Lenovo exec is to be believed, expect Motorola’s entire Moto portfolio to feature fingerprint scanners and come equipped with 5-inch+ displays (for better or worse).
