Google could soon allow you to use partial Google Play credit to buy stuff
Anyone who has collected Google Play credits from various promotions and opportunities (such as those Google Opinion Rewards surveys) know by now that it’s not possible to use the credit if it doesn’t fully cover the cost of your purchase. For instance, if you wanted to buy a $.99 song and you only had $.98 in Google Play credit, you had to pay for the song with actual money.
That could be changing soon. One Reddit user reportedly gained the option to use their Google Play credit balance to partially pay for an item, with the rest of the cost being offloaded to their credit card. Unfortunately we can’t find any other reports of this feature turning up, and our own testing hasn’t been fruitful.
It’s possible Google is testing the feature out with a very small subset of users, though it’d be odd for them to do that without giving us the heads up. We’re also always keeping the possibility of this being a hoax in the back of our heads.
But for the love of all that is right in the world, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that this comes to fruition because if I have to miss out on using Google Play credits for another purchase because I’m a few cents shy, I will simply lose my $#!*.
