We weren’t sure which insurance provider OnePlus would opt for when they announced On-Guard for North America, their all-inclusive warranty and support program which they promised would bring world class support. Our early thoughts were SquareTrade, but with today’s launch of the OnePlus X in North America the company has confirmed their exact plans.
OnePlus will be going with Assurant, who has been the go-to insurance provider for US carriers over the years. OnePlus has 3 different options for you to choose from: 12, 18 or 24 months of total coverage. The former only handles hardware failures that weren’t caused by device abuse, while the latter two options come with a period of coverage for accidental drops and spills. Here’s the full breakdown of what’s available:
One other big consideration in the early going: those who already bought the device won’t be able to get the insurance. OnePlus only allows you to cover devices at the time of purchase right now, however they say they’re working with Assurant to support a grace period for those who buy a device but can’t add a plan right away.
We’re not sure how or if this will play to the earliest OnePlus 2 or OnePlus X owners, but we imagine they won’t worry about those details until they get some sort of deal in place. As for the rest of you would-be buyers, be sure to consider getting one of these warranty plans whenever you’re speeding through checkout.
