Alanis Morissette remakes “Isn’t it Ironic” for the smartphone era [VIDEO]
Original compositions might always be the best, but there’s nothing wrong with updating songs for modern times. Alanis Morisette saw fit to do just that with her classic 1995 cut “Ironic,” but the 2015 rendition — sung in unison with Late Show host James Corden — isn’t just a random assortment of ironic situations spit onto a lyricists’ pad — it’s all about smartphone apps with the video you see above.
“It’s like swiping left on your future soulmate,” an obvious nod to Tinder’s simple hookup app, is just one example of the popular apps mentioned in the song. Here are some of the others:
- Facebook — “An old Facebook friend sends you a request, and you only find out they’re racist after you accept”
- iPhone — “It’s like they announce a new iPhone the day after you buy it”
- Snapchat — “It’s a Snapchat that you wish you had saved”
