Tomorrow, Qualcomm will officially unveil the Snapdragon 820, the company’s latest SoC that’s said to come inside over 30 devices launching next year. There’s a lot of hype surrounding the 820. Not so much because of its rumored 35% performance boost, but because it’s simply not the controversial 810 which faced overheating issues on some devices (yet somehow remains cool and insanely fast on the Nexus 6P).
Qualcomm’s Tim McDonough took to Twitter today to remind everyone of tomorrow’s 820 event, announcing that directly afterward he’ll be taking over Qualcomm’s official Twitter account for a live Q&A session. Although they’re sure to announced plenty of details tomorrow, not everything has been kept under wraps. We already know the SoC will feature blazing fast LTE speeds and come with Qualcomm’s new Quick Charge 3.0 technology. When it came to addressing the Snapdragon 810’s arguably overblown overheating concerns, McDonough says the new 820 is already beating OEM thermal requirements. This, he says, will leave consumers feeling “cool” having a phone with an 820 inside. That’s somewhat comforting.
The announcement is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, with the Q&A sesh taking place at around 12:15 ET. Stay tuned.
