HTC may not have hit their target “October” release goal for Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the HTC One M8 Google Play edition, but at least they’ve been open about it. HTC’s Mo Versi owned up to the slight delay on Twitter a few days back, where he said the update should be landing any day now.
Looks like the rollout has officially begun, as he’s been retweeting lucky One M8 GPe owners who have already started receiving the update over-the-air. At 450.4MB, the update is a sizable one and brings all the new features Marshmallow has at its disposal. Our favorite? That it’s not Lollipop. That’s kind of a big one.
While we’re happy for One M8 owners (whether they have an actual GPe device or are just flashing the ROM), we have to admit, this stings a little bit. We can’t begin to tell you how deeply saddening it is that the GPe program went defunct. We’d pay a ridiculous amount of money to have a Google Play Edition One M9 and/or Galaxy S6/S6 Edge Plus. Sigh.
