Google has never been too concerned with commercial success for the Nexus line, so advertisement for the devices have historically been slim. They’re usually content with web ads and YouTube videos, and opted to let carriers who offered the device to advertise them on their own. They’ve run some ads of their own on TV before, but they were more to highlight Android itself than to drive sales for the phone.
But for the launch of the Nexus 5X — which is starting to hit doorsteps — and the Nexus 6P, things are different. Carriers aren’t selling the devices, so Google has to go it alone. And they’re going it alone big time.
The two ads you see above are starting to hit prime time television. You might have noticed it in your routine channel-hopping musings in the past few days. They’re even buying up some of the most premium advertising spots around — those which air during NFL football.
They’re unusually hardware-focused, with Google showing the beauty of each device more than function. They want people to buy these things, and they want them to buy them in droves. Whether it’s enough to make the Neuxs 5X and Nexus 6P successes without the help of carrier subsidizing remains to be determined. Check them out above.
