The Samsung Galaxy Nexus gets Android 6.0 Marshmallow

Would you believe us if we told you the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow? It’s not getting it in any official capacity, mind you, but there will be a way for owners of that device to enjoy it regardless.

Folks at XDA have cooked up the first Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM for it. The work comes from Ziyan, a known developer who made Android 5.0 and Android 5.1 ROMs for the Galaxy Nexus when those were still the hot new items on the block.

Before you jump for joy, know that this is still early work. The developer doesn’t recommend using it as a daily driver, with notable missing features and bugs including the lack of NFC functionality and the inability to record videos (the camera app simply crashes when trying).

For that reason, it also won’t be a simple flash. You’ll need to build the ROM from source, so if you know how to do that and understand the risks of flashing experimental software then have at it. Otherwise, the developer has a solid enough track record to make us confident that a more stable and conventional release will be along in no time.
