Well, here’s yet another move by Big Red to try and get you onto their new plans. The company is rumored to be raising the price of grandfathered unlimited data plans by $20.
The word comes from The Verge, who we’d say has a solid enough track record to be worried that the report is accurate. They even say a Verizon spokesperson has confirmed plans for the changes to go into effect, something that’ll happen at the start of November, and will only apply to customers who are outside of any existing contract commitments.
According to Verizon, less than 1% of their users are still on unlimited data, which isn’t a large number in the grand scheme of things but still represents a lot of people. That said, there is one good change coming — unlimited data users will be able to upgrade using Verizon’s device payment plan. Previously you were required to buy a device outright if you wanted to upgrade and keep unlimited data.
So, it’s time for roll call — who’s still on unlimited data? If you are, how do you feel about the changes? Paying an extra $20 per month for the trade-off of being able to upgrade using monthly installments doesn’t sound like the greatest of deals, but if they’re going to force you into it then at least there’s some sort of perk.
