We know the CyanogenMod team will bring us Android 6.0 Marshmallow sooner or later, but it’s always nice to see those plans put into action. The team has started pushing CyanogenMod 13 code commits to their public Gerrit repository. It doesn’t mean much to the end-user right now, but all of these commits, lines of code and other bits of info that seem foreign right now will eventually spawn a build of CyanogenMod based on Marshmallow.
Of course, getting started is getting started. There’s still no idea how long it will take CyanogenMod to ship a stable ROM, or even begin dishing out nightlies. And if you know anything about CyanogenMod, you’ll know not to ever as for ETAs from them.
For what it’s worth, Cyanogen has also expressed plans to bet Cyanogen OS going on Marshmallow on a similar schedule. Cyanogen OS is the version of the software that is licensed by OEMs such as Yu and — once upon a time — OnePlus (whose phone will also be getting the latest Cyanogen OS for those who prefer it over OxygenOS despite the two sides falling out).
So, all of that is to say sit tight, and be happy that Marshmallow is on the way to a Cyanogen installation near you!
