Unboxing the 2nd Gen Chromecast and Chromecast Audio [VIDEO]

We walked away from Google’s San Francisco event yesterday with not one, but 2 new Chromecast devices. If you didn’t know, Google introduced a refreshed Chromecast that has better WiFi radios and antennuation, as well as a sleek new look.

There wasn’t much new beyond that for hardware, but software improvements do bring us improved discovery features, as well as a new Fast Play feature that’ll queue your media up in advance based on your usage patterns. No more waiting for that loading circle of death on Netflix!

Then there’s the Chromecast Audio, which is a little puck that looks like a vinyl record. It plugs into a speaker using a 3.5mm headphone jack, and it allows you to use Google Cast to beam audio from your phone.

This is great for those who might not have the means to buy a speaker with Google Cast built-in. Guests can come over and link up to your Chromecast Audio and beam their tunes to your speakers, just as they can do with video on the Chromecast. Oh, and there’s a magnet on its backside to stick it onto a metallic surface, which is quite neat.

We’ve taken the libery of unboxing both these bad boys, so be sure to take a look at that video above if that’s something you get a kick out of. Otherwise, we’ll be taking these things for a spin in due time so stay on the lookout for continued coverage!
