[Update: Maybe not] Huawei’s Nexus 6P hits the FCC, said to have microSD slot
[Update]: According to Android Police, who seems to know more about the device than anyone, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will both exclude microSD card slots. We’re not sure why the FCC listing for the Nexus 6P referenced one, but that’s the word. Either way, there’s only one day left before we know everything for ourselves!
While we have nearly all the information we could ever ask for about the Huawei Nexus 6P (thanks in part to a very meaty weekend leak), there’s still a bit more to take in. The device has hit the FCC, which in itself isn’t all that surprising considering Google is ready to announce it tomorrow.
What’s more interesting is that the FCC listing suggests the device will have microSD support. You can find that line in the device’s RF Exposure summary that gives a quick rundown of the wireless radios and electronic interfaces stuffed inside the device:
The mobile phone implements such functions as RF signal receiving/transmitting, LTE/HSPA/UMTS and GSM/GPRS/EDGE and CDMA2000 1x and 1xEV-DO protocol processing, voice, video MMS service, GPS, AGPS, NFC and WiFi etc. Externally it provides microSD card interface (it can also be used as microSD interface), earphone port (to provide voice service). It also provides a Bluetooth module to synchronize data between a PC and the phone, or to use the built-in modem of the phone to access the internet with a PC, or to exchange data with other Bluetooth devices.
If accurate, we’re not sure why Huawei wouldn’t look to make this a major talking point considering folks have been clamoring for a microSD-equipped Nexus phone for years after handset makers suddenly stopped including them.
Everything else looks quite normal from where we’re sitting, with a full menu of LTE bands for use on many different carriers in North America, as well as mentions of some of the same specs we heard about over the weekend:
