HTC hasn’t yet come public with details about OTA updates for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but we might have an early idea thanks to a trustworthy leakster. Llabtoofer has taken to Twitter with a list of devices currently on HTC’s update roadmap:
- HTC Desire EYE
- HTC Desire 816
- HTC Desire 820
- HTC Desire 826
- HTC One M8,
- HTC One M8s
- HTC One M8 EYE
- HTC One E8
- HTC One M9
- HTC One M9+
- HTC One ME
- HTC One E9
- HTC One E9+
- HTC Butterfly 2
- HTC Butterfly 3
That pretty much covers most of the major phones the Taiwanese companies have launched over the past couple of years. Owners of devices not on the list might be taken aback, but it’s important to remember a few things:
- There’s no guarantee the list is accurate, even if it does come from a source with a solid track record.
- There’s a chance HTC will add more to the list over time as they explore the feasibility of updating older devices.
- There’s just as much of a chance of HTC removing some devices from the list (notably, those with limited storage such as entry-level Desire phones).
- HTC doesn’t promise to update devices that are older than 18 months, but you can always turn to the ROM community for support.
But the most important thing to remember is that this isn’t official word, and it’s not wise to take anything as gospel unless it comes straight from the carrier. Having said that, how disappointed would you be if your HTC phone never receives Marshmallow? Sound off in the comments ahead if you have something to say!
