LG officially announces the metal-clad LG Class

The renders were as real as real can be, folks. This is the LG Class, a phone fully decked out in metal. It’s bound to turn heads, but not just because this is LG’s first handset using this much of the hard material. It’s a beautiful tease of things to come, but hardly beautiful in itself, from where we stand.

It’s blocky, for starters, with an industrial design that looks a few years too late to the party. It’s also got a lot more bezel than we’d ever be comfortable with. And the spec sheet screams mid-range, to boot:

That said, an attractive price tag and some decent marketing could make this a success for the markets it’s aimed for, which we imagine are Asian territories only for the time being.

More than that, though, we’re hoping that this is LG’s declaration that they want to start putting the pedal to the metal for many of their smartphones going forward, just as Samsung did with the Samsung Galaxy A lineup before they pulled off a big design overhaul for their 2015 flagships. For those who wouldn’t mind owning this thing in the meantime, it’s headed to all South Korean carriers for the equivalent of $339 unlocked later this month.
