Three of the hottest new smartwatches – the Motorola Moto 360 (2015), Samsung Gear S2, and Huawei Watch – were just announced. Now all 3 are available for purchase, so which one should you buy? That depends on what you want.
If you mainly want a smartwatch that looks exceptional, the Huawei Watch is your best bet. It comes in 6 distinct styles that are all gorgeous, looking less like a smartwatch and more like fine jewelry. You pay for what you get, though, with prices ranging from $350 all the way up to $800.
If one of those 6 styles doesn’t whet your appetite, you’ll likely find what you want with Moto Maker. That’s Motorola’s tool for customizing the Moto 360. You can choose different watch bands, bodies, and faces in a variety of materials and colors, allowing you to create your own masterpiece.
If you haven’t played with Moto Maker, you need to: it’s incredibly fun to literally make a fashion statement. But perfectionists may squawk at the little black bar on the bottom of the watch face, unendearingly referred to as the “flat tire” by critics. If you can overlook that – and one great way to do so is by using a black watch face – you’ll love the Moto 360.
Functionality and ease of use: if that’s what you care about? Then go with the Samsung Gear S2. Unlike the Huawei Watch and Moto 360, which rely strictly on touchscreen and voice controls, the Gear S2 has a rotating bezel used to navigate left and right between items and up and down on pages. It’s awesome.
But with that functionality comes comes 3 cons: style points, app options, and iPhone support.
Aside from the Gear S2 looking a little less premium (the Gear S2 Classic looks better than the Gear S), it also isn’t really an Android device. It runs an operating system calls Tizen that connects to Android. You’ll still have access to thousands of apps, and most of the ones you use daily, but your catalog of options won’t be as extensive and iPhone users need not apply.
