We already gave you guys the full rundown behind Nextbit, a San Francisco startup formed by ex-Googlers who, in February, will launch their first smartphone called the Nextbit Robin. The phone is built completely with the cloud in mind and intelligently moves stagnant data — such as old photos, videos, or apps that haven’t been accessed in awhile — to a 100GB cloud storage account. Here’s some other key hardware specs:

Having kicked off a very successful Kickstarter (at the time of writing, they’ve already hit $804,000 of their original $500,000 goal with 26 days left to go), last night the folks at Nextbit threw a sort of meet-and-greet at a local bar in San Francisco. It’s there people were able to schmooze with the folks in charge of Nextbit, have a few drinks, and best of all — get a little hands-on time with the Robin itself.
Our good friend Tony Hannides from Lazy Tech Guys was able to attend the small event on Phandroid’s behalf, snapping a few pics, grabbing some video clips, and providing his thoughts after the festivities had ended. According to Tony, the phone felt great in the hand although it was surprising light (maybe it had to do with all that cloud storage. Heh).
He did encounter the slight hiccup when navigating the phone’s software which is, admittedly, still very early at this point. We have little doubt things will be optimized in time for the phone’s release with the Nextbit Robin’s Kickstarter ending on October 1st and officially becoming available to the general pubic in February. That’s still quite a ways off.
Check out our gallery for real-world shots of the Nexbit Robin down below and don’t forget to listen to Tony’s thoughts in the video up above. Cheers.
