For Motorola, the flat tire design is one that brings about great sorrow, yet just as much joy at the same time. It’s necessary to ensure they cut down on the outer bezels of the watch and to maximize display-to-body ratio.
But we’re not exactly sure what Alcatel’s excuse is. Their latest watch — the Go Watch — has a flat tire, and it’s far more profound here than you’d find on the Moto 360. Even worse, the bezel is still several times larger than the Moto 360’s. And the thing looks like a $10 Casio kids’ watch you can buy from Walmart, at that.
That said, there are some redeeming qualities. It works with both Android and iOS, and supports notifications for SMS, calls, news, weather and social networks. There’s a heart rate sensor and altimeter for fitness buffs, and it’s water resistance. It also tells the time, so there’s that.
We’re also digging the 2-5 day battery life, which Alcatel somehow managed to achieve with just a 225mAh battery. Signs of a barebones smart watch or genius engineering? That’s up for debate, especially since the thing hasn’t launched yet. We don’t know when that’ll happen just yet, so stick with us for the details as they come in.
