We actually posted this yesterday in our Moto 360 (2015) hardware specs, but just in case someone might have missed it (we know, there was a lot of Moto 360 news yesterday) a PSA seemed in order. Given a lot of current Moto 360 owners might be upgrading to the latest model — the new Moto 360 2015 — you might be thinking you’ll be able to use the old charger with the new model. Wrong.
Well, that’s what Motorola is saying anyway. In their press release, Motorola specifically points out that:
“Moto 360 (2nd Gen.) watches are not compatible with our first generation of wireless chargers.
Moto 360 (1st Gen.) watches are not compatible with our second generation of wireless chargers.”
It’s really odd given the new model, we assume, is still using Qi wireless charging (unless Motorola pulled a switcharoo on us). Apparently there was a big enough change in the shape and size of the new Moto 360 (2015) that old chargers are not compatible. Lame. The new 2nd Gen charger is already listed on the Google Store (but still coming soon), so anyone who thought the old one would work, you may want to consider buying a spare.
