If you’re dead set on going with a Motorola watch for your 2015 needs, the company has thrown an interesting variable into the equation: there’s a Moto 360 “Sport” coming alongside the normal 2nd Gen Moto 360 (2015). But which one should you get?
Uniquely, that’s a question that’s easy to answer, yet just as difficult. The Moto 360 is stylish and full-featured, yet it probably isn’t appropriate for every situation. Would you go running or biking with a Moto 360 on your wrist? Probably not, but it would look fine for just about everything else.
On the other hand, the Moto 360 Sport seems perfect for the gym rat or outdoorsy type of person who might find themselves drenched in rain or sweat, or who might take a fall or two while biking in a first or hiking a mountain trail. You wouldn’t want the fancy version of the Moto 360 in these situations, would you?
Motorola advertises a lot of fitness-centric use cases for the Moto 360 Sport that would normally make it a default option for fitness fiends. Tracking steps, listening to music with Google Play Music, or unlocking your door when you get back home from your run are all cool things you could do on the Moto 360 Sport… but you could just as easily do most of these things on the regular Moto 360, or any other Android Wear smartwatch.
The Moto 360 Sport does have the distinction of having onboard GPS, though, so it becomes a must have if you like to track your runs’ distance and speed. There’s also Motorola AnyLight Hybrid display, which uses a new double reflective display technology to make it easily viewable in the darkest of rooms or under the brightest light of the sun.
So it comes down to evaluating your own lifestyle: are you very active and always getting your knees and elbows scraped, hair wet and whatever else comes from being a fitness buff? You probably want the Moto 360 Sport . It doesn’t even look half bad if you’re just wearing it to the store or your place of employment. It could even be the perfect option for children who might want a smart watch but don’t need the level of luxury that the regular Moto 360 offers.
But if you’re a casual, mingling nightlife addict who can’t quite find time for the gym or to enjoy the outdoors too often then you’ll probably want to just get a Moto 360. That’s the beauty of choice and personalism, folks: find out who you are, and get whichever watch fits your mold the best.
PS: there is the issue of availability. The Moto 360 can be pre-ordered today from Motorola.com, with shipping estimates being before the end of the month. Meanwhile, we haven’t the slightest clue when the Moto 360 Sport will be available. Whether you’re willing to wait for the sporty version of this thing is up to you to decide.
