Sony’s big IFA event is on the horizon, and already we’re beginning to see bits and pieces of what’s to come. A fairly trusted leakster has come up with images of two Xperia prototypes, with one being a compact version of the bigger brother. (Sandwiched between the two is an iPhone for comparison purposes.)
The image doesn’t give us much except one obvious big detail: there’s a fingerprint scanner! It’s all the rage these days, if you haven’t heard, so it doesn’t surprise us that Sony would want to equip their second half flagship devices with one.
The interesting thing about Sony’s supposed implementation is that the fingerprint scanner is side-mounted, instead of the usual placements of the rear or on the front beneath the display. We’re not yet sure how to feel about that, but it does seem to make sense considering the way we naturally hold phones. We’ll just have to wait until it’s out to see how awkward it may or may not be. Sony’s IFA press conference happens September 2nd and we hope to find out then.
