We’d already seen evidence that the OnePlus 2 had a camera to be reckoned with, but now we get an even more detailed look at its capabilities. New sample shots have appeared online, and they were compared with samples from two of the top smartphone cameras on the market — Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6.
That’s big boy ball in the realm of smartphone cameras, and OnePlus seems to have hit a homerun. The first set of shots compare the OnePlus 2 to the Samsung Galaxy S6 in macro photography. OnePlus 2 is on the left, with the competition on the right (click to enlarge):
We can see from these set of samples that the OnePlus 2 recreated the color with better accuracy, and the picture also seems to have come out much clearer (though we won’t rule out a potential smudge on the lens of the Samsung Galaxy S6).
These images do well to showcase the clarity at which the OnePlus 2 takes photos (click to enlarge):
You can see that the ink lines are much more fine and sharp in the OnePlus 2’s image.
Next, it went toe-to-toe with the iPhone in a series of night shot comparisons. Again, OnePlus 2 is on the left, while the iPhone 6 is on the right (click to enlarge):
One immediate takeaway is that the OnePlus 2 produces less noise in low-light situations, and also seems to produce a sharper image. Color accuracy seems to be a wash between the two, though the lesser noise in the latter two OnePlus 2’s shots makes for an overall more accurate photo.
What’s even crazier to think about is that the OnePlus 2 hasn’t even been finalized yet, so there are still software and hardware tweaks which could improve performance even more. We’ll have to wait until we can get samples from a final unit, but it’s safe to say that the OnePlus 2 will have a seat at the “king of cameras” table right next to the other two.
