Gallery Doctor knows which photos you want to delete even before you do [VIDEO]

Few things are more annoying than trying to install a new app or game and being told you don’t have enough room. Just where is all that space and how did it evaporate? More often than not, it tends to be old or unwanted photos you’ve snapped but didn’t care to delete right away, or perhaps it’s something you shared on a social network and no longer has a meaningful purpose on your device.

Gallery Doctor, a new app that just hit the Google Play Store, wants to help make the process of identifying and deleting those photos a lot easier. The app can automatically detect photos that you probably didn’t even know you didn’t want. Here are just a few examples:

And they even claim to be able to detect your “boring” shots — not sure how that particular algorithm works, but don’t get too miffed if it ends up tagging one of those awesome party photos of yours as “boring.”

We gave Gallery Doctor a quick spin (which you can see in the video above) and found that it actually does a pretty good job of highlighting a bunch of photos we didn’t care to keep. Of course, if you ever disagree with any of its selections it’s very easy to exclude it from the purge.

Once you’ve gone over everything and decided which photos to keep it takes just one tap to get rid of the rest. The main benefit of this comes not only from getting increased storage from deleting the photos, but also having a cleaner and overall more refreshing gallery of photos to look through instead of needing to wade through a bunch of undesirables every time you need to find something.

The most interesting part is that Gallery Doctor works best over time. Use it every month, every week or every day if you so choose, and it will get smarter and figure out which photos you are more likely to ditch in the future. The app will even send out a notification whenever you take a photo it thinks you will most likely opt to discard. That it does all this under a layer of Material Design is just sweet icing on the cake.

It’s worth mentioning that Gallery Doctor is made by the same folks behind MyRoll, a very popular gallery replacement app that is likely far better than the default option shipped with whatever phone you happen to be using (it also happened to get a great update today that adds support for Android Wear).

My Roll makes its name on the back of a contextual recognition engine that helps automatically identify apps that matter more to you. The foundation of that app is what helps Gallery Doctor work so well. That’s solid track history and proof positive that the app will only get better from here on out.

Be sure to give Gallery Doctor a whirl for free in the Google Play Store, and don’t forget to check out our hands-on sitting above.
